Meet Liss and Joe, the passionate founders behind Kents of Cornwall.
Kents began their journey as two adventurous spirits, Joe and Liss, wandering nomads driven by curiosity and compassion. From the rugged landscapes of Cornwall to the frigid expanses of Mongolia, they embarked on a quest to rediscover ancient cultures and childhood dreams.
Inspired by their time living among Mongolian nomads, they returned to Cornwall with the idea of bringing yurts (‘Gers’) back to the UK. Despite initial challenges adapting the traditional shelters to the coastal climate, their perseverance led to the creation of a resilient hybrid yurt.
Their bond with a local yurt maker in Ulaanbaatar strengthened over the years, resulting in a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation. Committed to environmental sustainability, Kents expanded their endeavors to include hosting eco retreats, permaculture workshops, and cultivating organic food.
Today, Kents of Cornwall stands as a beacon of innovation and environmental stewardship, offering bespoke Mongolian yurts and eco-infrastructure nationwide while continuing to honor their roots through a passion for surfing.

We’ll be taking it slow this year!
Yurt sales and spare parts will be open until July 2025, after which we’ll be taking a break.
We’ll still be busy with the smallholding and welcoming volunteers.
The yurt camp will not be open for bookings this season. We plan to reopen in 2026!
No Permaculture Design Course this year either — but you can find Aranya’s other courses at learnpermaculture.com/course-dates.
